Herb was the son of Frank and Jessie (McCoy) Stone of Wabash County, Indiana. In 1925 he married Viola Taylor, daughter of Dick and Jennie Taylor of Woodson County, Kansas. Viola had two beautiful daughters from a prior marriage that Herb raised as his own until they both tragically passed away at young ages. Along with his mother-in-law Jennie, Herb later cared for his own wife Viola in her own illness until he passed away suddenly, to the great loss of all who loved him.
