Elbert Franklin chose to change the spelling of his surname. He was reported to have been killed in Chicago by stray gunfire as he drove his trolley into a gang war. Elbert Franklin Lusader married Florence Murrell Lusk in Fountain County, Indiana on May 25, 1908.
Elbert Lusader (63566256)

Suggested edit: Lusader working as a streetcar motorman was caught in the crossfire between a Chicago police detective and two Capone hit squads attempting to kill northside mob associate, John Zuta. The detective was transporting Zuta from Chicago's south side Detective Bureau location (11 and State St, Capone's territory) after picking him up as part of the investigation into the murder of news reporter Jake Lingle. During his career Zuta worked with both the north side (Moran) and southside (Capone) mobs. Ultimately he aligned himself with the northsiders. Zuta had previously double crossed the southside gangsters by attempting to open a racing track with his northside allies despite agreeing at a 1929 Atlantic City meeting not to open any new race tracks in Chicago. He further alienated the southsiders by arranging for the murder of Jake Lingle over $2500 Lingle owed him. The Lingle murder brought much unwelcome attention and heat down on every gangster in Chicago. Already despised by the Capone mob, Zuta had signed his death warrant by arranging the Lingle killing. He was murdered the next day (1 Aug) at a Wisconsin resort by Capone's gunmen.
