Son of Nancy (Remington) and Loudon Lippett. Married (1) Almira Jocelyn, (2)Mrs. Almira (Yarrington) Warren. Dr. Lippitt arrived in Winnebago County in 1836; he bought half a section in Rockton Township. He paid for the land with one pair of horses, eighty dollars in cash and a note for $40. He had made the trip on the horses; he had to walk back to New York. He moved his wife and four children from NY to IL the next year. They traveled in a two wheel cart pulled by oxen; it took 6 weeks to make the trip to Illinois. When he found the land he had purchased the year before, he found it was worthless. He went to Shirland Township, and purchased another claim; this land stayed in the family for over 100 years. He was appointed viewer of roads September 7, 1840.He was the first doctor in Shirland Township, and one of the first in the county. His 5 sons died young, but his four daughters lived to be old. He had a hard time losing his sons. Known children (1) Maria Louise, Ann Phidelia, Mary Jane, and Francis N. (2)by 2nd wife--Phebe Almira, John, Charles Loudon, Albert Wesley, and Ira.
