Born August 18, 1885 in Shelby County, he was the son of Joseph Franklin and Elizabeth Ann Boggs Cockrum.
On March 12, 1905, at Novelty, he married May Woodard who preceded him in death in September 1976. Also preceding him in death were one son, Patrick Cockrum in 1954 and one sister, Carrie Hershey in 1976.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Geneva) Crawford of rural Atlanta, three granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cockrum was a life-long resident of the Leonard community with the exception of a few years which were spent in the state of Idaho. He was engaged in farming until his retirement. He was a member of the Cherry Box Christian Church.
Burial will be in the Cockrum Cemetery south of Novelty.
