Rebecca Ashcraft born in SC was the daughter of Martha Patsy Ferguson and Joel Ashcraft. She married 1st Andrew Jackson Chambers in SC and moved to Arkansas before the Civil War. Two daughters resulted from that marriage. She married 2nd, Eldridge L. Haynes, during or after the Civil War. One son, Eldridge Conway Haynes, and one daughter, Olive J. Haynes were issues of this marriage. Her daughter Olive died within days of the birth of her second son, Fred B. Shelby, apparently from complications of childbirth and Rebecca raised the newborn. Her other grandson, Henry Beauford, was raised by his father, James Ervin "Jim" Shelby.
