Biography:
He was born on July 21, 1858 in Pennsylvania to Wilhelm Goebel and Augusta Groenkle. He had brothers, William J. Goebel and Arthur Goebel. He married Elizabeth and they had the following children: Lieutenant Justus Goebel II; Captain William Goebel, who both served in the American Expeditionary Forces; and Lillie Goebel Heusch, of Columbus, Ohio. His brother died in 1900 and in 1901 Justus was indicted for bribery. In 1910 he moved to near Phoenix, Arizona for his health. He was a delegate to Democratic National Convention from Kentucky in 1912. He died on March 11, 1919 in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio.
