Eugene L. Ackerman
RINCON — Eugene L. Ackerman, 60,
died Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital.
The Rincon native retired from the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after 41
years of service. He was a member of
Rincon United Methodist Church, the
Rincon Zoning Board and a former member
of American Legion, Post 209. He was
a charter member of Marine Rescue
Squadron 4A, Rincon Jaycees, Rincon
Cemetery Association and Effingham
County Recreation Department. He was
a U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jeanelle
A. Ackerman of Rincon; a daughter, Ms.
Andrea L. Ackerman of Lawrenceville;
three sisters, Mrs. Rose Canady, Mrs.
Brenda Helmly and Mrs. Nancy Robbins;
three brothers, Bruce Ackerman, all of
Rincon, Bernard Ackerman of Stillmore
and Steve Ackerman of Hilton Head Island,
S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral: 3 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas
C. Strickland Funeral Home, Rincon
Chapel, burial in Goshen United Methodist
Church Cemetery.
