Services for Burl Sipe of Rt. 1, Tryon, will be held at the Christian Union Church in Tryon on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Interment will be in Tryon. Sipe died Sunday, April 17, 1977, at Stillwater Municipal Hospital at the age of 84.
Sipe was born April 22, 1892, in Shaver, Arkansas, the son of William R. and Mary Sipe. He came to Oklahoma in a covered wagon in 1897, first going to Wellston when it was tent city. After living in Oklahoma less than 2 years, the family returned to Arkansas. They finally returned and settled in Lincoln County in 1901 near Tryon, where sipe lived until his death. He married Effie Lee Deal in Chandler in 1914. Sipe was a farmer before World War II, and at that time worked in defense work until the end of the war. After the war, he worked for an oil company and was a carpenter until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Clayton of Cushing; four daughters, Mrs. Freida Smith of Carney, Mrs. Basil Baker of Del City, Mrs. Forest Combs of Moore and Mrs. Mildred Dickey of Midwest City, and one sister, Mrs. Roxey May Gibson Drumright. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
