A graveside service for Edward Briggs Garrigues will be held at 3 p.m. Sept 29, 2010, in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Garrigues was the son of the late Dwight L and Violet Huss Garrigues. an Air Force veteran, he was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base and worked in Photo Reconnaissance with the 393rd Squardron. He also worked for DuPont and Columbia Films and at SC ETV from April 3, 1963 until his retirement December 31, 1989. He served in the Graphics Department and was the supervisor of the Photography Division that included both Still Photography and Film Production. Ed had the responsiblity of overseeing many national award-winning instructional, dramatic and documentary film productions while at SCETV. He was instrumental in guiding SCETV through the transitions from black and white film to color film production and then into video production. He also managed the production budgets for SCETV's Production Department. He was a teacher and mentor to many noted filmakers and photographers throughout his career. Ed and his wife, Dottie, were avid USC basketball fans and seldom missed a home game up until the time their health no longer permitted them to attend. After retirement, he fulfilled his dream of moving to Lake Murray. He loved organic gardening and photography and his hobbies included woodworking and collecting and restoring vintage cameras. Ed was a devoted husband, father and brother and a loyal friend. Surviving are his sister, Maggie Kelley of Topeka, KS, and two nieces. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Dillard Garrigues, and daughter Susan G. Hudson. Special thanks for Ed's special friends, Mike and Peggy Marchant, and to fellow patients and caregivers at Lexington Extended Care for their constant love and devotion during his illness.
