Born in Darien, N.Y. (Genessee County). Enlisted in Company C, 103rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry at Cleveland, OH, July 31, 1862. He listed his occupation as "caulker." Resided on west side of Cleveland on Merchant St. with his wife and one child. He rose to the rank of sergeant. On June 24, 1864 he transferred to the United States Navy.
His date of discharge from the Navy is pending additional research. His name is on Panel #13 as a member of the 103rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the Cuyahoga County Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, Public Square, Cleveland, Ohio.

He appears in the 1870 U.S. Census in Peru, IL em-
ployed as a ship's carpenter with wife, Mary 34, born MA; Frank B., son, 9, born OH; Ida M., dau., 4, and Charles H., son, 2, both born in IL. By 1880 he was not listed as living in the houshold and could not be accouted for. There was an additional son, Robert E, 7, born in IL.

Henry Lockwood does have a military headstone application but it is basically illegible except for Peru, IL location.

Mary may have died by 1900. Unknown if she is buried in Peru City Cemetery.
