Mrs. Ruth Lewis Bowman, 87, a resident of Harrisonburg, died at 1:45 Saturday morning, April 24, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

A daughter of the late Ernest and Alice Roberts Lewis, she was born on May 8, 1922, in Dover, N.H.

Mrs. Bowman had worked for AT&T and Pacific Bell Telephone in San Diego, Calif., for 19 years and lived in various states throughout the country. She had been living in Harrisonburg since 1984 and was a member of the Harrisonburg Baptist Church, where she served as a deacon and belonged to the XYZ and Plentinine Senior Adult Groups, the Agape Circle, and the Keenagers and Co-Ed IX Sunday School Classes.

Her husband, Clifford R. Bowman, preceded her in death on July 14, 1997.

Surviving are one sister, Nellie Moore of Dover, N.H., and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and several great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 29, at the Harrisonburg Baptist Church with Dr. Jack Mercer, the Rev. Stacy Nowell and the Rev. T.W. Johnson Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Harrisonburg Baptist Church Kid's Alive Ministry, 501 South Main St., Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
