St. George, Utah - Ruth Timms Arbuckle Edmunds passed away at Beehive House Assisted Living facility in St. George, Utah on Sunday, December 26 2010. Ruth was born in Bountiful, Utah on January 18, 1914. She was the third of six children born to Thomas L. Timms and Arminta Roberts of Centerville, Utah. She spent her early years in Centerville, graduating from Davis High School. She married Dale Arbuckle in the Salt Lake Temple and they moved to San Bernardino, California, and later to Monterey Park, where Dale was a Safeway store manager. Dale died in 1964 and Ruth was alone for four years. She married Dr. Joseph T. Edmunds, Feb 14, 1968. His wife, Lois, died in 1967 after spending three years helping her husband organize a new mission for the Church in Brussels Belgium 1963-1966. Ruth's warmth soon made her respected and loved by the large Edmunds family of five children, thirty-eight grandchildren and more than 150 great-grandchildren. Ruth was a very talented musician, playing piano, organ and violin. Her keen ear allowed her to listen to her mother's piano students receiving lessons, and at the age of four she could play the music she heard, by ear. This ability to play any melody she heard was a great talent which made her popular with her peers at social gatherings, where she played for them to sing and dance. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she spent over 75 years in musical service in the wards and stakes where she lived. At the age of 14 she was called to be Sunday School organist and served as organist and chorister and choir director in subsequent callings. In addition to her vast musical service in the church, she was called as Sunday School secretary. She served with her husband for ten years as the stake M-Men and Gleaner leaders and then went on an international mission to Mauritius and La Reunion, both of which are volcanic islands in the Indian Ocean (1979-81). Following this mission, she and her husband served in the St. George name extraction program, where she was active until 2005, a period of 25 years. She is survived by her son, Gary Arbuckle (Diane), a retired dentist living in Virginia, and their four children and seven grandchildren, as well as all of Joe's large family, Joe and Joann Edmunds, Joanne and LaMar Anderson, Gee Gee and Blaine Awerkamp, Diane and Bill Lewis, and Jean Kay and Gordon Williams. She has returned to her eternal companion in paradise. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bloomington LDS 4th Ward Chapel, 3381 South Mulberry Drive, St. George, Utah. Interment will be Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221
