Robert Floyd "Bob" Bunton, 79, of rural Newton departed from this life to be with the Lord at 2:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at home after a long illness.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Bob will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Scott Avenue Christian Church, Newton, with Brother John Blackmore and Brother Mark Wilkinson officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Cemetery near Falmouth. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois. Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton, is in charge of arrangements.
Bob was born Feb. 27, 1928, in Jasper County, the son of Ray and Gladys Blanche (Bower) Bunton. He was united in marriage to Maude E. Reynolds on July 2, 1947, in Ingraham.
Bob was a retired bricklayer who took great pride in his work. He was a member of Scott Avenue Christian Church, Newton; Watchman on the wall; and participated in Kingdom Builders Men's Fellowship. He had a devoted love for his Lord and served over the years in the Church of Christ as an elder and teacher. In recent months, he volunteered in a jail ministry in Jasper County.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Maude E. Bunton of Newton; children, Stephen (wife, Marti) Bunton of St. Clair, Mo., Max (wife, Donna) Bunton and Marla (husband, Rick) Britton, both of Newton; grandchildren, Jason Bunton, Jared (wife, Lisa) Bunton, Bethany (husband, Dustin) Marshall, Breanna Bunton, Richelle Britton, Ryan Britton and Riley Britton; two great-granddaughters; and brothers, Glennard (wife, Genevieve) Bunton of Newton, Kendall (wife, Cleo) Bunton of Creve Coeur and Paul (wife, Jenny) Bunton of Mount Zion.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald Ray Bunton; and brother, Lorraine Bunton.
