SAN ANGELO - Marilyn Jean Coplen went to be with the Lord Monday evening, June 28, 2010. Marilyn Jean Bone was born in Richmond, Ind., to Earl Bone and Clara Christina Gross on Sept. 28, 1922. She met Joe Coplen in McCamey and married him. They moved to Long Beach, Calif., with longtime friends Chuck and Eileen Ferguson. In 1960, they moved to San Angelo where they remained through retirement. Marilyn retired from K-Mart where she worked for over 30 years, leaving with many long-term K-Mart friends. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Coplen; her parents, Clara and Guy Righter, Earl Bone; and her brother, Jack Righter. She is survived by her daughters, Patty Brown of Fort Worth, Diane Whitfield and son-in-law Curtis of Richland Hills and Cathy Coplen of San Angelo; grandkids Paula Benge, Wendy Whitfield Allen and husband Gary, Bobby Bowen and wife Dawn, Case Whitfield and Tyler Coplen; 11 great-grandkids; two great-great-grandkids; her brother, Jim Bone and wife Peggy of Arlington; sister Erlene Thomas of Odessa; sister Mary Margaret Milam of Odessa; sister-in-law Helen Reed and husband Charlie; brother-in-law Eddie Coplen and wife Jane; sister-in-law Catherine Coplen; sister-in-law Sherry Coplen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mom never met a stranger. She loved everyone and we often kidded her she would get on a plane and by the time she got where she was going, knew everyone on the plane and their life story. She was a funny, crazy lady. You were never sure what she would do next. At family reunions, everyone gathered around her to hear the latest story of silly things she did. Dad, being very quite and reserved, would just shake his head and smile, never saying anything. Mom loved the beach and loved going there with a large group of friends. She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2010, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Gary Karschner officiating.
