VALDESE Mr. Harvey Ray Cook Jr., 55, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at Autumn Care in Drexel, after a period of declining health.
Mr. Cook was born Oct. 14, 1948, in Cleveland County, son of the late Harvey Ray Cook Sr. and Betty Wilson Cook.
He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Valdese, where he served as the audio-visual technician. He was a former member of the Drexel Jaycees.
As a sports announcer, he worked for WSOC, WSVM, WMNC, WOHS, WADA and WKGX. He was also the voice of the Freedom Patriots and the Davidson Wildcats. He was a sergeant with the Lenoir Police Department and coordinator of the DARE program.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Leach Cook of the home; three sons, Gregory Scott Cook of Burlington, Jody Ray Cook and his wife, Jodi, of Sheraton, Ore., and Christopher Harvey Cook of Walkertown; a sister and her husband, Debbie and Michael Hilton of Jacksonville; and three grandchildren, Christopher Cook, Jericho Cook and Kye Cook.
Interment with honors by the Lenoir Police Department will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fallston.
