Violet E. (Heuchert) Anderson passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She was 93.
Vi was born Violet Elizabeth Heuchert to Phillip and Katherine (Reihl) Heuchert on August 20, 1917 in St. Thomas, North Dakota. After her father was killed in a farm accident in 1923 at the Heuchert farm, the family moved to St. Thomas. After graduating from high school, she entered nursing school in Grafton, North Dakota in 1937. She received her R.N. degree in 1940 and for a time was employed at the Deaconess Hospital in Grafton. Later she went to Seattle, WA to visit her sister and ended up taking a position at Seattle General Hospital. She also worked as a private duty nurse for the head of the Big Bear Co. there. She nursed in Long Beach, CA during the war, but was finally persuaded to come to the Deaconess Hospital in Grafton to work due to the shortage of nurses.
She married Elmer L. Anderson on June 25, 1950. They made their home in St. Thomas where they raised two sons, Lynn and Gregg.
In 1957, Elmer was offered a position as a school administrator in Managua, Nicaragua, so the family moved there for 2 years. After Nicaragua, Vi worked at the Grafton Deaconess Hospital, retiring in 1971. In 1996, she and her husband moved to Briarwood Apartments in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Vi was a charter member of the St. Thomas Lyceum Club, Republican Women's Club and was active in the St. Thomas flower shows. She enjoyed crafts, singing, playing the piano, her grandchildren, hamburgers with raw onions, and Ole & Lena jokes.
Vi is preceded in death by her brothers, (Carl, John and Ernest) two sisters, Pauline Smith and Margaret Vanliew, and her husband Elmer. Her sister, Ella Puppe, resides in Cavalier, North Dakota.
