CUTBIRTH
Funeral services are pending at West Funeral Home for Otho Smith Cutbirth, 89, a former resident of Carlsbad who died Wednesday in Long Beach, Calif.
Cutbirth moved to Carlsbad in 1940 and was employed at the air base here. A carpenter, he later worked for Potash Company of America. Upon retirement he operated a Ruidoso motel until 1969.
He and his wife, Elizabeth Cutbirth of Long Beach, celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary less than a month ago. Cutbirth, who was a member of the Presbyterian Church, was active in square dancing in the southwest.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a grandson, Don Cox, also of Long Beach.
