Mabel Glynn Hassell Basnight of Manteo, died Monday, November 16, in a Norfolk Hospital. She was the daughter of Abner Charles Hassell and Lillie Wise Hassell.

Mrs. Basnight, a native of Manteo, was a former secretary to D. Bradford Fearing, who served as chairman of County Commissioners and Chamber of Commerce, and the producer and general manager of "The Lost Colony" from 1937-1977 and continued to serve as box office manager through the 1992 season.

She was retired from N.C. Power, where she was director of customer service. Mrs. Basnight had also been business manager for Roanoke Utilities and Fearings, Inc. and was a member of the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Basnight is survived by her husband, James "Mose" Oscoe Basnight of the home [married July 9 1931]; a daughter, Lebame Houston, and a son, Jimmy Basnight, both of Manteo; a sister, Sophie Fulcher of Tarpon Springs, FL; a brother, A. Charles Hassell of Suffolk, VA; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at Twiford's Colony Chapel November 19 by the Rev. Clarence Garner and Rev. Jimmy Davenport. Burial will follow in the Manteo Cemetery.
