Mrs. Edwin J. (Ruth M.) Shoemaker, 81, of Monroe, died at the Walter O. Boswell Memorial Hospital, Sun City, Arizona. Born Nov. 30, 1909, in Laurium, she was the daughter of Harry G. and Mary G. (Laws) Buck. She was married June 8, 1935, to Edwin J. Shoemaker in Trinity Lutheran Church. Mr. Shoemaker was a co-founder, with his cousin, Edward M. Knabusch, of the La-Z-Boy Chair Co. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1985. She had been employed at one time as a postal clerk in the Carleton Post Office. A graduate of Carleton High School, she attended Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Fountain of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City. The couple had spent their winters in Sun City for the past seven years. She also was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid, the Garden Study Circle, the Monroe Women's Center, the Monroe County Historical Society, the International Lutheran Layman's League, Valparaiso University President's Club, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and the Monroe YMCA. Surviving were her husband; two sons, and a daughter; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Her husband outlived her by 7 years.
