DAVID J. ABBEY DIED LAST WEEK
Sick for Only a Short Time with Acute Pneumonia
WAS A NATIVE OF RANDOLPH
But Moved to Salamanca Twenty-Two Years Ago--Funeral Conducted by Odd Fellows on Sunday
Word reached here late last week of the sudden death of David J. Abbey of Salamanca which occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Grace Caswell in West Henrietta on Thursday.
He had been ill but a few days with acute pneumonia and a fatal outcome was unlooked for in so brief a time. The body was taken to his late home on Penn Avenue in Salamanca on the same day.
David Abbey was born in Randolph about 57 years ago and was a resident of this township until 22 years ago when he removed to Salamanca where he resided up to the time of his death. He was a carpenter by trade, an honest, industrious citizen, and a man who possessed the full confidence and esteem of a wide circle of friends and neighbors. He was thoroughly well known here, and the news of his death was received with genuine regret by those who knew him best.
Besides a wife Mr. Abbey is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Grace Caswell of West Henrietta, and three sons, George, Lee and Carl of Salamanca. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Jane Caswell of Randolph, and five brothers, Joseph, John, Warren and Jefferson of Randolph, and Jason Abbey of Cherry Creek.
Mr. Abbey was a member of the Odd Fellows, the K.O.T.M., Order of the Golden Seal, the Ridgley Protective Association and the Carpenters' Union of Salamanca.
The funeral was largely attended at the Congregational church in Salamanca on Sunday afternoon, and a long procession comprising members of the Carpenters' union, I.O.O.F. and K.O.T.M. followed the body to its last resting place in Wildwood cemetery. The services were in charge of Salamanca lodge I.O.O.F. with Rev. R. N. Wyman officiating.
Those from Randolph who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Abbey, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Abbey, John F. Abbey, Nelson Abbey, Norman M. Abbey and Miss Lena Caswell.
