He enlisted July 18, 1861 & served as a private in Company H, 3rd Tennessee Infantry, C.S.A. The last 5 months of the war he served with General Chalmers Cavalry. He was taken prisoner of war when they surrendered at the close of the war in Northern Mississippi. He was paroled on terms agreed upon between General Canby, U.S.A., and General Taylor, C.S.A., May 17-18, 1865, from Memphis, Tennessee. He arrived home on May 24, 1865.
