Mr. McArthur was a retired businessman in Fayetteville for many years.
He was born in Fayetteville, a son of the late Alexander and Mary Catherine, nee Wadsworth, McArthur of an old Scotch family. He was educated at private schools here and at Oak Ridge Military Academy.
He spent a number of years in Florida, connected with family businesses there. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and had been retired many years.
He was preceded in death by his only son, Charles Neill McArthur III, who died in WWII in 1943.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nell, nee Mallory, McArthur, formerly of Athens, Ga., daughter Mrs. David S Meredith III of Germany, three grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Hector Mc Geachy Sr. and Mrs. Eliza Newton, both of Fayetteville.
