SAN ANGELO Ruby Joy Bratcher died peacefully Sunday evening, Dec. 19, 2010 in Sagecrest Alzheimer's Facility, San Angelo, TX. She was born June 15, 1928 in Post TX to Edward F. Carpenter and Lottye Benge Carpenter. Family visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 from 5:30 PM ? 7:30 PM at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 at the Church of Christ in Sterling City with Don Davis and Dennis Teeters officiating. Joy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Ralph, Harley, W.R., Leslie and Billy; sisters Ellena Hutchins and Nelda Neeld. Joy is survived by son, Laylan Bratcher and wife Linda of San Angelo; daughter, Gay Elmore and husband, Hershel of Walton, WV, daughter Brenda Bratcher of Carrollton, TX; grandchildren, Scott Bratcher and wife Shelly of Lubbock, TX. Stephanie Wright and husband, Jody of Grand Prairie, TX, Kara Martinez of Savannah, GA, Andrea Martinez of Carrollton, TX, Sherri Elmore and friend Heather Taylor of Columbus, OH, Shane Elmore and wife, Heather of Clendenin, WV, and Shawna Powers and husband, Josh of Clendenin, WV. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Ina Dee Carpenter. Joy grew up in the area around Draw and O'Donnell, Texas. She was a faithful and active member of the Church of Christ wherever she lived. She was primarily a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting for her friends and family. She received a degree in bookkeeping which she used part-time keeping books for A.W.'s businesses and preparing income tax returns. Upon moving to Sterling City she volunteered her time to the community in such areas as the county library and elections. She was always available to help friends and family and enjoyed spending many fun hours with her grandchildren. She was affectionately known to them as "Nanaw". Pallbearers will be Craig Frizzell, Danny Hinderliter, Dennis Patrick, Danny Stewart, Reed Stewart, and Bruce Thomas. Joy was a member of the Church of Christ in Sterling City, TX. The family wishes to express our deepest appreciation to the staff at Sagecrest Alzheimer's Facility for their loving care of Joy. Memorials may be made to Sagecrest Alzheimer's Facility, 902 N.
