Mr. Hilbert was born May 4, 1915, in Dayton, and was a son of the late Minor L. and Annie Wheelbarger Hilbert.
He moved to Augusta County and was a carpenter, janitor and bus driver for North River School prior to working for the Daily Brothers Shoe Factory in Harrisonburg.
He served in the U.S. Army in the 10th Army Division during World War II. He was a member of Moscow Church of the Brethren in Mount Solon.
On April 1, 1944, he married Mary Elizabeth Rusmisel, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Sponaugle of Waldorf, Md.; a son, Glenn W. Hilbert of Hanover, Md.; a sister, Mae Harold of Bridgewater; two brothers, Roy L. Hilbert of Dayton and Ira Hilbert of Harrisonburg; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Sister Dawn Lare and the Rev. Donald Williams will conduct the funeral 1 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater, where friends may call any time today. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.
