DEATH OF JOHN WILLIAM NELSON

With deep regret we note the passing away of Mr. John William Nelson, which occurred at his home on West Roland avenue on Sunday morning, April 1, 1928, after an extended illness with diabetes and a complication of troubles.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. A. Riggs, of the Baptist church, were held at the family home on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery.

John William Nelson, son of French L. and Mary Greenlee Nelson, was born in Mason county, West Virginia, on February 2, 1866. He moved with his parents to Allerton, Wayne county, Iowa, when but a small child, and thus most of his life was spent in this part of Iowa. He came to Chariton with his family about two years ago and this place has since been his home.

He was united in marriage to Miss Cora Martin, of Chariton, on August 30, 1896. Three children were born to gladden their home.

William Nelson was a lover of his home, and to him it was the abiding place of love. He united with the Baptist church in the early years of his manhood while he lived at Allerton, and was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, holding his membership with the lodge there. Mr. Nelson had a capacity for making friends, and to them he was loyal. He has always been a devoted husband and father.

He leaves to mourn his going his wife, two sons, Dr. Leo Nelson and Raymond Nelson, both of Dallas, Texas, and one daughter, Mildred, of Chariton. He is also survived by five brothers and one sister, namely, Elwood Nelson, of Allerton; Nina, of Phoenix, Arizona; Morgan, of Terry, Montana; Ott, of Koshkonong, Mo.; George, of Glenwood, Iowa; Vernon, of Pendleton, Oregon; also two grandchildren, Mary Francis and Bobby Nelson. To all these sorrowing ones the sympathy of many friends will be extended.
