Dr. LeGrand R. Curtis died Sunday, December 19, 2010, of complications of Parkinson's disease. He was born May 22, 1924 in Salt Lake City, the youngest son of Alexander Robertson and Genevieve Raine Curtis. He married Patricia Glade on June 1, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple. Dr. Curtis attended the University of Utah, and the University of Kansas City receiving his D.D.S. in 1946, and M.S. in Orthodontics in 1948. Dr. Curtis was a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontists, member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontia, the American Dental Association, the Salt Lake District Dental Society, the American Association of Orthodontists, Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists, Utah Association of Orthodontists and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Delta fraternities. He practiced orthodontics in Salt Lake City for more than 40 years. He was musically gifted on the organ and piano. He was organist for the Southeast Presbyterian Church in Kansas City at the same time that he was organist for the LDS Church in the same city. An accomplished speaker, he was also frequently asked to play the organ or piano. Impromptu, Dad sat at the console playing medleys of popular music and Church hymns. Many share fond memories of Dad at the organ or piano playing hymns with family gathered around singing. Dr. Curtis served in the U.S. Army from 1943-44 and in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps from 1946-48. His life of service was centered on his love of family and Church. His focus on family was exemplary; his brothers, sisters and friends affectionately referred to him as "Bud." Elder Curtis served as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy and as a regional representative for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was twice a member of the Young Men General Presidency and was President of Sigma Gamma Chi. He was President of the Tallahassee Florida Mission and President of the Salt Lake Jordan River Temple. He served many years as a bishop and stake president and stake patriarch. He was untiring in his dedication and service to the Church. He spent countless hours serving, helping and counseling. Dr. Curtis is survived by his wife Patricia Glade of Salt Lake City; eight children, Dr. Richard (Annette), Dr. Glade (Debbie), LeGrand Jr. (Jane), Candi (Robert) Merrell, Sydney (Jim) Lindsley, Terrill, Dr. Brent (Debi) and Rebecca (Dr. Bryan) Timmins, 36 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers (Elbert, Jesse, Louis, A. Ray, Dale, Lindsay, Marvin) and two sisters (Alice, Catherine). The family would like to thank The Coventry Assisted Living, Midas Creek and Comfort Care Hospice. We are grateful to dedicated and loving caregivers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday December 27, 2010 at the Holladay North Stake Center, 4395 South Albright Dr. (2145 East), Salt Lake City, Utah 84124. A viewing will be held Sunday December 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday December 27 from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church (same location as the funeral).
