Harriet Ellen "Hattie" Sisson was the daughter of Rodman James Sisson and Edna Ann Applebury. She married James Oliver Swanger 21 Nov 1872 in Chickasaw County, Iowa. They had children: Louis Melvin Oliver Swanger born 1876, Ervin Earl Swanger born 1880, Charles Albert Swanger born 1882, Maude Edna Swanger born 1885 and Edith Mae Swanger born 1889.

Her father, Rodman James Sisson was the son of James Sisson and Hannah Baldwin who migrated from Chenango County, New York to Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois in 1836. They traveled in a Covered Wagon led by Oxen. The family became ill on the trip, and three children died, they are buried near Chicago.

Her grandmother, Hannah Baldwin was the daughter of Richard Baldwin and Hannah Baldwin (third cousins). They were born in Leicester, Worcester, Massachusetts. They migrated to Chenango County, New York, 30 years later migrated to Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois where they died.
