She was a native of Patton, AL, but had resided in Manteo for the past 18 years. She was a member of the Saint Andrews-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church at Nags Head and the daughter of the late William and Sally Norvell Nelson and widow of the late James C. Bardin, M.D. and PhD.
She is survived by one son, James N. Bardin of Garden Grove, CA, and several grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted Monday in the Manteo Cemetery by the Rev. Kenneth Whitney, rector of Saint Andrews-by-the-Sea. Pallbearers were W.W. Tarkington, Fred Wescott, Guy Midgett, Jack Tillett, George Creef and Sam Moore.
Mrs. Bardin was a well-known color artist and had used Dare County scenes as the focal of many of her paintings. She and Dr. Bardin spent their summer vacations in Manteo for many years. After his retirement from the faculty of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, they moved to Manteo to make their home.
After his death she remained in Manteo and took an active part in many civic organizations, including the Roanoke Island Garden Club, the Manteo Woman's Club, and the former Roanoke Island Music Club. She also took an active part in the development of the Dare County Library.
