In 1840 he and his wife and their son lived in Sugar Creek Township, Armstrong County, PA.

In 1850 he and his three children lived with his mother, Catharine Foster, age 66, on a farm in Sugar Creek Township. He owned real property worth $5500. Also living with them was Mary Yockey, age 20, and John Titus, age 19.

In 1860 he and his second wife, his three children from his first marriage, and their daughter lived there on the farm. He owned real property worth $12,000 and personal property worth $5000, although those numbers were reversed on the census record.
