Jacob Alexander Fite was born on March 31, 1833 in McMinn County, Tennessee, the son of Peter Fite and Nancy (Carlock) Fite. In 1844, when Jacob was 11 years old, his father moved the family to Murray County, Georgia, settling on a farm about two miles east of the town of Resaca. Shortly after1850, this area of Murray County would become part of the newly formed Gordon County. Jacob would reside in Gordon County the rest of his life.
About 1857/58, Jacob Alexander Fite was married to Clio Melpamenia Gideon, the daughter of Dr. Berry Wilson Gideon and Lillie (Parks) Gideon. Clio was born on May 20, 1830 in Fayette County, Georgia.
