VICE PRESIDENT OF BANK IS DEAD
Last rites of R.P. Smith will be held here Tuesday
Robert Percy Smith, 59, vice president of the First National Bank and lifelong resident of Mason City, died shortly after 7 o'clock Saturday evening from the effects of a heart attack suffered at 9 o'clock Saturday morning. He was stricken in the First National Barber Shop and immediately taken to a local hospital where he died.
Mr. Smith was born in Mason City Nov. 1, 1878. His father was the First National Bank and Cerro Gordo County's first volunteer in the Civil War. The son was also a volunteer soldier, serving as chief trumpeter of the Thirteenth Minnesota Regiment in the Spanish-American War during which he saw active service in the Philippine Islands.
Upon his return from the Philippines, he entered the First National Bank as a bookkeeper nearly 40 years ago. He became assistant cashier in 1914, cashier in 1920 and at the time of his death was vice president.
He was a graduate of Mason City High School and of the University of Minnesota. He was a member of the Masonic and Elks Lodges.
He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Elizabeth, at home. A son, Robert, who is employed in Arkansas, arrived in Mason City Sunday afternoon. Two brothers, Warren B. Smith and H. Carl Smith, both of Mason City, also survive.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Beebe of South Dakota, parents of Mrs. Smith, will attend the funeral.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at the Patterson Funeral Home with the Rev. Clarence E. Flynn, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Funeral services will be held at the Patterson Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with the Rev. C.E. Flynn, pastor of the First M.E. Church, in charge of services. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. The Patterson Funeral Home in charge.
