Grant was the son of Oliver P. and Elizabeth Margaret Register Harness. They had four children, Grant N., William T., John and Rebeccah.

He married Adeline "Addie" A. Waddell Feb. 18, 1884 in Buchanan County, Missouri.

They had 10 children: Buelah Mae (Swigett), Elizabeth Margaret (Webster), Cordelia, Walter Raymond, Osa Thomas, Grant N., Byron A., Cyrus L., LeRoy and Adeline (McKernan)Dishon.

Prominent Troy Citizen was Mayor of Troy from 1901 to 1903

Grant Dishon, Sr., 74 years old, prominent Troy citizen for many years, well known orchardist and farmer, passed away at a St. Joseph, MO hospital at 11:50 o'clock, Monday night, September 12th following an illness that lasted several weeks. Mr. Dishon became critically ill and was taken to the hospital for observation and treatment on August 29th. His condition gradually became worse until death relieved him of his suffering.

Grant Dishon was an outstanding figure in the community. He had been a resident of Troy for more than 50 years and during that time had been prominent in public life. He was mayor of Troy from 1901 to 1903. In 1906 he was an unsuccessful candidate for Sheriff. He held a number of other public offices of trust during his long and useful life.

Mr. Dishon was a successful farmer and orchardist, owning several fine farms in this township. During the past few years due to ill health he has led a more retired life and spent much of his time on h is various farms.

Grant N. Dishon, Sr. was born five miles south of St. Joseph, MO, September 30, 1863, the son of Oliver and Elizabeth Harness Dishon. His father was a native of Missouri and his mother of Virginia. He grew to manhood in the neighborhood and was married to Addie Waddell at Willow Brook, MO., February 18, 1884 and they came to Kansas and established a home 5 miles northeast of Troy.

To this union was born 10 children, nine of whom survive. Besides his widow, Mrs. Addie Dishon, he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Beulah M. Swiggett, Troy, (who is Clerk of the District Court of Doniphan county); Mrs. E. D. (Elizabeth) Webster, Lincoln, Kansas; Mrs. Adelyn n McKernan, Troy; Walter Dishon, Osa Dishon, Grant Dishon, Jr., Byron Dishon, Cyrus Dishon and Leroy Dishon, all of Troy; twenty-four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Hawk, St. Joseph, MO.; and three half-sisters, Mrs. Angieline Hirsch, Mrs. Addie McCauley and Mrs. Bettie Tays, all of St. Joseph, MO.

Mr. Dishon was a member of the Methodist church.

Funeral Services were held from the Karr Funeral Home, at 2:30 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, Rev. I. D. Beamer, preaching the funeral sermon. The male quartet sang. Interment was in Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Pallbearers were E. A. Gibson, Leroy Sandy, John R. Bell, G. E. McNutt, Jesse Chapple and O. O. Fulk.
