Deceased Name: WILLIAM C. BYRNE DIES AT 50
William C. Byrne, 50, of 110 Terrace Drive, Fairmount, formerly of Castle Road, North Syracuse , died Thursday at Community-General Hospital of a heart attack suffered while playing golf.
Mr. Byrne was born in Syracuse and was a graduate of Most Holy Rosary High School. In 1954 he was co-captain of the All Parochial Basketball Team and he made the first team in the All New York State Boys Basketball Team.
Mr. Byrne owned and operated Bill Byrne Service Station at 625 W. Fayette St. for 30 years before retiring in 1984.
Most recently he was employed by E.M. O'Donnell of Syracuse . He was a communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Mr. Byrne was a member of the Pastime Athletic Club and the Fox Fire Tennis and Country Club.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Tague Byrne; three daughters, Cynthia Mainzer and Deborah Raulli of North Syracuse and Patricia Brown of Skaneateles; a son, William C. II of North Syracuse ; three brothers, Joseph M. and David J. of Fairmount and Peter A. of Syracuse ; a sister, Catherine Erwin of Syracuse ; and seven grandchildren.
Services are at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Whelan Brothers Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
