From contributor Loretta Castaldi, 10/20/2015:
Once more the hand of Death with his sickle keen has reaped one of our fairest flowers that all loved dearly. May 14 1889, Ollie Morlan peacefully fell asleep in Jesus. The deceased was seventeen years old, and had attended school at Fairmount most of the winter of 1888-9, but the last of February took pneumonia and was confined to the house for a few days, then became better for a short time. She became worse and worse, until death released her from her suffering. Ollie was very patient; she never murmured. The “Lord’s will was her will.” She died triumphant in the faith of the Savior, desiring all to meet her beyond the “Dark River.” She desired that Rev. Grate should preach her funeral sermon. She also planned for her burial, which was according to her request. Miss Ollie was a young lady of fine intellect, and ambitious for her bodily health. She was always jovial and her teacher and schoolmates loved to be with her.
Ollie was missed during the latter part of winter school, but now her desk is vacant. She has gone to study and praise the beauties of a better land, whose teacher is Christ. Ollie had chosen Him as her guide four years ago this coming August and faithfully followed him until called to join the saints in Heaven. She was borne to her last resting place by six of her school-mates. She bore a wreath of roses made by her teacher. May she sleep that blessed sleep that knows no waking. R, L. M.
