Edythe Ann Bumke Hendryx, 83, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2010, at Heritage Pointe in Warren, Indiana. Edie was the loving wife of Clark "Hank" Hendryx of Marion.

She was born September 9, 1927, in Speedway, Indiana, and lived there with her parents, Eva and Wilbur Chamness, until she left to attend Purdue University. There she met Jim Bumke and they were married in Speedway on November 27, 1948. Edie and Jim lived in Chicago, Lafayette, and Indianapolis before moving to Marion in 1951, shortly after the birth of their first child, Susie. Marion would be Edie's home for almost 60 years, and she loved living there. She and Jim made dozens of lifelong friends and were very involved in the community.

Edie was an active member of First United Methodist Church, served on the board of the Hostess House and was a member of Advance Club, AAUW, and PEO. She enjoyed square dancing, playing bridge, and traveling with her family. But her greatest interest was in her children and grandchildren, and she helped keep her often far-flung family very close. Everyone gathered each year at Thanksgiving, often in her Marion home, and during summer vacations at a series of lake cottages, and she was always eager to hear what her children and grandchildren were doing. After Jim died following a long illness in 1995, Edie had the good fortune to be reunited with Hank Hendryx, who had been a high school classmate in Speedway, and they were married on November 26, 1999, in Naperville, Illinois, with all of her children and their families in attendance.

Edie is survived by her husband, Hank of Marion; and her children, Susie (Dennis) Dobrodt of Naperville, Illinois; David (Beth Mauro) Bumke of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey; Mary Ann (Rob) Foster of Bow, New Hampshire, and Lisa (Scott) Borton of Naperville; and 11 grandchildren, David Dobrodt of Seattle; Adam Dobrodt of Naperville; Matt Foster of San Francisco; Kelly Foster, Rachel Foster, Luke Foster, Alison Bumke, Julia Bumke, Haley Borton, Sarah Borton, and Sam Borton.

Edie's family wishes to thank her wonderful Heritage Pointe caregivers and especially Denise Hall who cared so lovingly for Edie in Edie's home.

Visitation will be held at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, on Saturday, December 18 from 1:00-3:30 p.m. with funeral immediately following at 3:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Marion Civic Theatre, PO Box 1898, Marion, would be appreciated.
