Agnes Blanche Steglich was born January 30, 1917, to Flora and Adolph Steglich near Bartlett, Texas. She attended the Kings Daughters Hospital Nursing program in Temple, TX. In 1941, Agnes was a Red Cross Nurse, and joined the army. She was sent to Kodiak, Alaska, where she was serving at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack. While in Kodiak she met her lifelong friend and future husband, Tracy Walseth. They married November 1, 1945, in Bartlett, Texas, and settled in his hometown, Clear Lake, South Dakota, where they made their home for the next 30 years.

During her early years in Clear Lake she was a member of the school board, a member of the Red Cross, and helped Tracy at times at his business, the Deuel County Abstract Co. She was a member of the Women's Extension Club, the United Methodist Women and Rebecca Circle, taught Sunday school to junior high children, and continued her nursing by working part time at the local hospital, and doing private nursing duty. She was a Charter member of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation. Agnes and Tracy raised their three daughters in Clear Lake, and later moved to Georgetown, TX. Early in their retirement, she loved traveling with Tracy in their Airstream, meeting new people and seeing our great country. Agnes could make a new friend with any stranger in one conversation. She was such a friendly and warm personality.

She had many aspects to her as well as many interests in life. She loved to be around people and she loved it when people came to visit her. She loved to laugh and had a very magnetic personality that drew people to her. Everyone who left her house after a visit, left not only with a smile but also newly created memories to cherish. She cross stitched beautiful Christmas stockings and sewed baby blankets for each of her grandkids. She had a passion for gardening and grew an abundant assortment of vegetables and beautiful flowers in her gardens. She always made occasions special by adding her own unique touches. She was very thoughtful towards others and frequently visited ill family members or friends. Crossword puzzles in the mornings with coffee and reading were among her favorite quiet activities. She often engaged others in interesting conversations. Being at the dinner table with her was always a joyful and pleasant time. She was intriguing, realistic, organized, and so practical in making decisions. She was never one to complain and handled herself in an amazingly calm manner even in difficult situations. She was always aware of the things that were important in life and she lived an exemplary life to all who knew her. She lived and she loved abundantly, and her family and friends will always hold her dear in their hearts. She was a mother, sister, grandma, aunt, and friend who will never be forgotten and forever missed. The twinkle in her eye paired with her beautiful smile is an image that will be treasured by all those blessed enough to have known her.

Survivors include her three daughters, Helen and Don Hardy of Georgetown, Texas, Kathy and Conrad Speece of Dallas, Texas, and Diane and Jenaro Yamanaka of Cedar Park, Texas. Her grandchildren are Marc, Kim, Krista and Jenny; Carey, Tracey, Connie, and Emily; Michelle, Shawn and Leslie. Agnes loved her eleven great-grandchildren. Also surviving Agnes are her brother, Lenwood, and sister, Joyce. Agnes, (Mom) will be missed forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that gifts be made to the American Red Cross or to the charity of your choice.
