DEATH 21 DAYS AFTER WIFE
Farm Home Near Wagner Is Snow Bound On Both Occasions
Wagner (Special) - Carl Frederick Scherer, 70, pioneer farmer and extensive owner living 6 miles south of Wagner, died suddenly at his home of a heart attack following ill health of a year's duration. His death occurred just 21 days after the death of his wife.
Two snow plows and a crew of men worked hours to open a trail to the farm home. The same conditions prevailed when the wife died, her funeral being delayed two days until roads could be opened. The same pall bearers who served at the wife's funeral will bear the same duties at services for Mr. Scherer.

Last week we published the obituary of Mrs. Bessie (Fridrich) Scherer, of Wagner, a former resident of Bon Homme County. This week we publish the obituary of her husband, whose body was laid to rest beside his wife, just a few days later. Mr. Scherer had been in failing health for more than a year, but his condition was not considered critical until Monday morning when he was seized with a sudden heart attack and passed away quickly. Snow plows and man power were summoned to open a road through the fields to the home and on Wednesday afternoon funeral services were held at the home, the Rev. B. A. Davis officiating. The same pall bearers who had officiated at the services for Mrs. Scherer acted in that capacity for the husband.
Carl Frederick Scherer was born October 19, 1866, on a farm near Yankton, South Dakota. He grew to manhood in that county, and at the age of thirty was united in marriage to Bessie Beatrice Fridrich (November 29, 1897, Tyndall). To them were born nine children: LeRoy of Geddes, Agnes Wood, who passed away in 1928, Carl of Dante, Winifred Bessie Barnhart of Norfolk, Neb.; and Robert, Hattie, Johnnie, Martha and LuVerna of Wagner. Mrs. Scherer had preceded him in death by twenty days. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Anderson of Tabor, and Mrs. George Biittler of Lake View, SD, and four brothers, Charlie of Clementson, Minn.; George of Geddes, William of Richmond, Va., and John of Petersburg, Va.
