Steve J. Berhorst, 65, St. Charles and Williamstown, died Thursday, December 14, 2000, in St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles. Born November 19, 1935, at Belle, he was a son of John and Regina Warden Berhorst. He married Arlene Lorrane Dick November 24, 1956 at Ellensburg, Wash. Mr. Berhorst was a truck driver for Gilster-Mary Lee of Chester, Ill., for several years until his retirement and was also a farmer. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Canton and a veteran of the U.s. Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Arlene, St. Charles; one son, Steven Daniel Berhorst, St. Charles; five daughters, Debra Anne Berhorst and Susan Marie Berhorst, St. Charles; Mrs. Terry (Betty Jean) Niswonger and Mrs. Kurt (Connie Lynn) West, O'Fallon; and Mrs. James (Denise Kay) Dowis, Woodstock, Ga.; five grandchildren; five brothers, Frank, Theodore and Lee, Canton; Edward, Williamstown; and Fred, Quincy; one sister, Mrs. Tom (Matilda) Frances, Albert Lee, Minn.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother in infancy. Funeral services were held Monday, December 18, 2000, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Canton with Rev. Tom Alber and Deacon Bob DePyper officiating. Visitation was held Sunday, December 17, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton with family present after 6:00 p.m. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m. Interment with military honors by Otto Bruner Post 170 American Legion of Canton will be at the graveside in Forest Grove Cemetery at Canton.
