Md. 2nd Antone Ludwig Halsett David and his wife were baptized in 1840 . Soon after they moved to Nauvoo where they lived until the death of Sarah and three of their children. After this David took his small son Evan and went back to their former home in Pennsylvania then he served a mission in the Eastern States . Upon his return, he married his second wife, Elizabeth Hoopes . When the saints left Nauvoo , David and his family started west with the saints. The cold and conditions resulted in the death of Elizabeth and their infant son. At Winter Quarters he again married. In June 1848 , they left with others for the Valley but soon his oxen died. And with other problems, he, with others, turned south to Savannah, Missouri . He worked there two years to rebuild his outfit. They finally reached the valley in 1850 and resided in Salt Lake until December 1850 . Then he was called to help establish Parowan. Upon returning, he built a home and blacksmith shop where the Cottonwood Mall is now located. He was soon called on another mission south of Ft. Bridger in Wyoming . Shortly after his return he was ordained a bishop (1856-1874 ). Three years after his release, his son was called and served in the same ward for 22 years. He served as a handcart missionary, served in the defense against Johnston 's army, served another mission, helped haul stone for the Salt Lake Temple, and had many other callings.
