Keith K. Phelps, 99, of Rochester, died Monday (Dec. 13, 2010) at Madonna Towers in Rochester.

Keith Kenzie Phelps was born July 21, 1911 in Waseca, MN, where he was raised and graduated from High School. He attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis for one year studying economics. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, serving one year in the Philippines near the end of World War II. On Sept. 24, 1935, he married Irene M. Christensen near Mapleton, MN. Irene died March 29, 2007. The couple resided in Waseca, until 1952, and then relocated to Austin, MN where they lived for five years. In 1957 they moved to Rochester. He worked in retail food in grocery management for forty seven years, retiring in 1976. He worked in stores in Waseca, Zumbrota, Austin, and the former Erdman's Super Value of Rochester for several years until his retirement. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and was involved in church senior activities. He was a member of the Senior Citizen's Center where he was a past president, was a long time member and president of the Silver Treads Square Dance Club, and was a member of the Waseca Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, and also the Eastern Star and White Shrine.
He enjoyed golfing and raising Roses. Keith was considered the "humorist" as he entertained many organizations with bits of humor and wisdom.

Survivors include his son, Kenzie (Mary Ann) of Clear Lake, MN; and his daughter, Carol (Ralph) Austin of Norman, OK; his daughter in law, Pastor Ruth Phelps of St. Louis Park, MN; six grandchildren, Sarah (John) Urick of Buffalo, MN; Matthew (Alisa) Phelps of White Bear Lake, MN; Taylor (Laura Pfeiffer) Phelps of St. Paul, MN; Kendra (Dave) Sahlstrom of Foley, MN; Hillary Austin of Houston, TX; and Alexis (Brett) Larson of Ravenna, NE; and eleven great-grandchildren, Jenna and Abigail Urick, Ben and Joey Phelps, Aidan and Ryder Phelps, Madison and Jack Sahlstrom, Holden and Kiley Burrus, and Cahill Larson. He is preceded in death by his wife Irene, son Joel, and his three brothers and one sister.

The funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Christ United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Wheeler Handlon officiating. Visitation will be an hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
Memorials are suggested to Rochester Senior Citizen's Center, Madonna Towers, or Christ United Methodist Church.
