Estella Margaret Carson was the third child of fifteen born to Adrion Carson and Jane Conley Carson. On 22 December 1865, she married William Simmons in Iowa County, Iowa. Together they had the following children, all born in Iowa:

1869 – 1949
Cyrus Elmer Simmons
1873 – 1944
William Riley Simmons
1876 – 1946

Between 1876 and 1880 the family moved to Nebraska, first residing in Clay County then by 1900 moving to Hastings in Adams County. Estella's husband William passed away sometime before 1880; in the 1880 federal census, Estella and her children were living with her parents.

On Feb. 9, 1922, the Hastings Tribune printed the following information, under the heading "Personal". Mrs. Estelle Simmons, who is upwards of 80 years old, is gravely ill at her home at 124 East Sixth Street. Mrs. Simmons has suffered a second stroke of paralysis and for several days has not been able to speak. Mrs. Simmons has resided in Hastings for many years.


On Feb. 10, 1922, the Hastings Tribune printed the following information, under the heading "Personal". John Simmons has arrived here from Pueblo coming because of the grave illness of his mother, Mrs. Estelle Simmons, who is 82 years old, and suffered a second stroke of paralysis on Feb. 5. Mrs. Simmons, who is at the home of her son, Will Simmons, at 122 East Sixth Street, has been unable to speak since she was stricken. Mrs. Simmons has resided in Hastings for 42 years.


On Feb. 11, 1922, the Hastings Tribure printed the following information, under the heading:

" DEATH AND FUNERALS". SIMMONS, Mrs. Estelle--Died 3 a. m. today, 122 East Sixth Street; age 82; survived by four sons; J. A. of Pueblo, Colo., C. E., of Cowles, M. B. and W. R. of Hastings; funeral at the Presbyterian Church, 2p.m. Monday; burial Parkview.
