Obituary in The Times and Democrat, Orangeburg, SC, 14 Apr 2003: Lexington - A celebration of life for Rosa Belle Cook, 96, formerly of Lexington, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Mount Hermon Lutheran Church, conducted by Pastor James Nichols. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Cook, widow of Lester Oswald, J. Hinkle Shealy, and Arthur W. Cook, died Saturday, April 12 in the Calhoun Convalescent Center. Born Sept. 17, 1906, in West Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Adam David and Lucy Emma Corley Areheart. Mrs. Cook worked over 15 years with Silver's Five and Dime before co-owning and operating Shealy's Grocery and Exxon, and was a member of Mount Hermon Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Julius Areheart, David Areheart, Kendal Areheart, Charlie Areheart, Adam Areheart, and Elmer Areheart; and three sisters, Lillie A. Senn, Della A. Bauknight and Adelle A. Wellborn. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia O. and Paul Ray Taylor of Lexington; son and daughter-in-law, Drayton Russell and Jean Oswald of Orangeburg; stepson and his wife, Robert M. and Katherine Oswald of North Augusta; seven grandchildren, Pauletta Taylor (Robert) Parker, Patricia Raye Taylor, Pamela Kaye Taylor, Deborah Oswald (Hank) Rutland, David Russell Oswald, Daniel Thomas (Susan) Oswald, and Donald Lester (Lane) Oswald; four step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 14 at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to Mount Herman Lutheran Church, 3011 Leaphart Road, W. Columbia SC 29169.
