BANGOR - Gary S. Ames, 44, passed away March 10, 2005, in his sleep during the early morning hours. He was born Nov. 17, 1960, in Blytheville, Ark., the son of Edward and Verona (Smith) Ames. Gary attended schools in Germany, Miss., Arizona, and Bangor. An avid baseball fan, he was an all star pitcher/ catcher in little league. Gary very much enjoyed going bass fishing the past few years. He worked at several local restaurants until being diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder which plagued him the rest of his life and rendered him incapable of working due to the effects of the required medications. Despite his affliction he maintained a brilliant mind, an optimistic outlook on life and a fantastic sense of humor. Gary is survived by his father and stepmother, Edward and Joan Ames of Orrington; his beloved wife, Vera Deshane of Bangor; brothers, Brian Ames of Belle Chasse, La., Alan Ames of North Lauderdale, Fla.; sister, Kathleen Ames of Old Town; many aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be sadly missed by his best friend, David Beauchamp of Derry, N.H. Gary was predeceased by his mother, Verona in 1988. (Bangor Daily News 3/14/2005)
