Sergeant with the Bradley Police Department for 22 years. He was killed in the line of duty when he was struck by an automobile while investigating an accident.


Wilford Ray ''Wil'' Lewis, 50, of Bradley, who died early today (Nov. 20, 1997) was a 22-year veteran of the Bradley Police Department. He was killed in an accident while on duty.

He was a police officer, promoted to the rank of sergeant Jan. 13, 1991, and shift supervisor.

He had worked at Bradley Roper before joining the police department in July of 1975.

Mr. Lewis was a member and past president of the Bradley Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 196; a crime scene supervisor and field training officer.

He was born Nov. 19, 1947 in Kankakee, the son of Charles and Lenora Kibler Lewis. His mother died Oct. 30, 1996 and his father in July, 1989.

Surviving are his wife, the former Laurie Dugan, whom he married May 21, 1971 in Aroma Park; one son, Preston Lewis of Kankakee; two daughters, Gina Drummer of Chebanse and Kelly Lewis of Manteno; two grandchildren, Lindsay and Kyle; one brother and sister-in- law, Kenneth and Becky Lewis of Phoenix, Ariz.; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965-67, attaining the rank of Sgt. E-4.

A member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Bourbonnais Bass Anglers Club, he also enjoyed bowling and golfing.
