Garret J. Slanger - At his home on Champlin Avenue, shortly before 1 o'clock last evening, occurred the death of Garret J. Slanger formerly of New York Mills. He had been in poor health for several years but his last illness had been only of a week duration. The deceased was born in Holland in October 1832 and he received his education there. He was employed in the mills. In the old country and prior to coming to this country in 1892, he was an overseer. He located in New York Mills and after nine years moved into the home in which his death occurred. For a number of years past, Mr. Slanger had led a retired life. He was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church of New York Mills and was well liked by all who knew him. Mr. Slanger was twice married. His first wife was Miss Henrietta De Leuw who died 29 years ago. In 1880,(14 Nov 1880, Haskerhorne, Friesland Netherlands) he married Miss Jennette De Hei who survives with the following children; Joseph Slanger of New York Mills, John and George Slanger of Montana, Mrs. Rutherford Bergmans of New York Mills; and four children by his second wife, John Slanger of Michigan, Miss Jessie May Slanger of Rockchester, Frederick, Matthew and Walter Slanger of Yorkville. (Born Gerrit Jochums Slange in Tjalleberd, Aengwirden, Friesland, Netherlands. Jennette was born Jentje Jans De Heij, the daughter of Jan Gerrits De Heij and Tietje Tijsse De Leew. She was a niece of Henrietta De Leew.)
