Anna was born in the small village of Raboldshausen, outside Kassel, Germany. Her parents were Johann Heinrich Hebeler and Anna Catharina Hebeler, born Kolbe. Anna emigrated to the United States in 1864. On Jan 1, 1866 she married Jacob Alfred Markley (born Merkle) in Cleveland. Together they had nine children, two of whom were twins. After Jacob's death, Anna lived in the Toledo area with her daughter Matilda Smith's family.
