Genevieve McCray Lusby, 99, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Panhandle Cemetery with Renae Haiduk officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Genevieve McCray Lusby was born Feb. 3, 1911, to Chester E. and Mary Blake McCray in their farm home Southeast of Panhandle. Chester McCray had come to Panhandle in 1906. Mary McCray moved to Panhandle in 1910, after their marriage in Iowa.

Genevieve attended Panhandle schools, graduating from Panhandle High School in 1930. She attended West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon for several years. She married Herbert Preston Lusby on Oct. 14, 1933. They lived in Pampa when Herbert was manager of the International Oil Well Supply Co. While in Pampa, a son, James Fletcher, was born on Aug. 30, 1934. He died of pneumonia on March 26, 1936, in Pampa. Genevieve and Herbert moved to Alice for a short time before moving to Tulsa, Okla., when Herbert worked for Bethlehem Supply Co. They lived in Tulsa until 1968, when they moved to Amarillo. Herbert Lusby died April 21, 1988.

Genevieve was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and circle 4 of Methodist Women. She moved to Park Place Towers in 1991, and was a resident of Harrington Assisted Living until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son; and two nephews, Robert Edward and William Chester McCray.

She is survived by her brother, James B. McCray and wife Mogie of Amarillo; and three nieces, Jean Ann McCray of Albuquerque, N.M., Betty Staples of New Berlin, Wis., and Grace Lusby of Oakland, Calif.

The family will be at Park Place Towers, 1300 S. Harrison St., Apartment 908.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. on today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 S. Polk St., Amarillo, TX 79101; The Carson County Square House Museum, P.O. Box 276, Panhandle, TX 79068; or a favorite charity.
