George married Martha Angeline Hasty and suffered through a number of years of miscarried children, including a few sets of twins. In 1884, he and brother-in-law (Mr. Hunter - to protect the privacy of his descendants), got into a drunken argument pertaining to the habitual state of Martha (re: pregnancy). The argument turned into a brawl which then became a one-man gun fight. George lost.

George is buried with a few of his children: Infant male/female Evans twins (d. 1883), and Walter Vernon Evans who also was a twin but survived only four months and died in 1884. Surviving twin, Laura Viola Evans survived and married Zebulon Vance Gray.


Mr. Hunter was tried for George's murder (The body of George Evans vs. Mr. Hunter). Mr. Hunter served three years of hard labor. He later committed suicide on the date his wife (George Evans' sister) passed away.
