In 1880 he and his parents and his brother and sister lived on a farm up the north fork of Buffalo Creek above Craigsville in West Franklin Township, Armstrong County, PA. Also living with them were a cousin of Sarah's, 19-year-old Sadie Somerville, and two farm workers, 16-year-old George Klugh and 58-year-old William Donnelly.

In 1900 he and his parents and his brother lived there. His father owned their home, mortgage free. Also living with them was his cousin, Virginia Huston, whose parents had recently died.

He and Melvina were married December 23, 1903. In 1910 they lived with his parents.

In 1920 he and his wife and their daughter, Alma, lived on their part of the family farm, and his father lived with them. They owned their home, mortgage free. Also living with them was a servant, 18-year-old Ruth E Goldinger.

In 1930 Ed, Mellie, and Alma lived in the same place. They did not have a radio. He worked as a laborer on the Township roads, and Alma worked as a stenographer for a chiropractor.

In 1940 he and his wife lived in presumably the same house there on the farm, which was valued at $2600. Their daughter Alma, her husband LeRoy, and their son Gary lived next door. Ed worked as a farmer.

In 1950 he and Mellie lived in the same house. Alma, LeRoy, and Gary lived next door.
