Murrell was born on March 27, 1924 in Algers, Louisiana. He was a vibrant, good natured man who loved to play golf, dance, and spend time with his family. Murrell successfully owned and operated Barrios Floors and was know for his quality work. He was a member of the Katy Elks Lodge.
Murrell moved to Houston in 1946 after serving in the U.S. Merchant Marines during WW II and made many perilous voyages across the North Atlantic during war time.
Murrell is preceded in death by his parents Wilton and Loretta Barrios of Alexandria, Louisiana; brothers, Oliver, Les, Clayton and Wilton; sisters, Loretta, Joyce and Betty; step-children, Mary Streetman Marshall, Ella Streetman Hicks, Harry Taylor Streetman and Joe Neil Streetman.
He is survived by his adoring and loving wife Sally Smith Barrios; numerous step-children, including Sandra Stevens, Deborah Lee, Tina Smith, Tommy Smith, Cecil Streetman, Jeanette Streetman Robinson, Joyce Ann Streetman Dudley, Diane Robbins and Ron Baebel. Also surviving are numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Murrell will be missed greatly by a host of loved ones and friends.
Friends are invited for visitation with the family from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00p.m., Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Waltrip Funeral Directors. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday in the Waltrip Chapel, Rev. John Bolt, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. Serviving as pallbearers are Garrett, Chase and Lukas Jinks, Craig Stevens, Kyler Tarr, Joseph Gonzales, Ty Barkley, Doyce and Seth Waldrop.
